| "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" Fantasy Becomes Reality: 2001
| One of Square's trademarks since day one has been it's ability to tell epic stories. Almost every single title that has been developed by Square has had a superb storyline complete with plot twists and endearing characters. Their flagship series, Final Fantasy, is a perfect example. Final Fantasy has had over nine titles (counting Tactics and Mystic Quests) that have captivated millions of gamers worldwide. Now, Square is attempting to take their remarkable storytelling to the big screen, where they will try to captivate millions of movie goers worldwide.
| Investing millions of dollars in animation alone, floors and floors of the world's best computer graphic artists are slaving around the clock in Square's Honolulu building. Years of research took place before work on the movie even started, and the production is still only moving at around two or three seconds a day. Using sensors and digital cameras on the real human beings to map their actual movements (for more info on how they made it, go here), Square is making sure that every tiny detail is perfect down to the wrinkles on characters' brows. Forget the computer animation you saw in Toy Story or Antz, The Spirits Within puts them to shame. Square is now not only the kings of computer animation in games, they are now the kings of computer animation. Period.
| Square and Columbia are also throwing some big money into getting big name actors and actresses to voice their animated characters. Stars such as Alec Baldwin and James Woods will provide voices for The Spirits Within. Visit the characters page for more info on the characters, and voices for more info on the real actors who played the voices for the great cast.
| The story is set in the year 2065, on the planet Earth. A great disaster has struck Earth and people are fighting to survive as there are many obstacles and hardships. Some sources have even called it "hell on earth." There is no reference to any Final Fantasy game and the script is completely original.
| It will be Square's greatest achievement if they can succeed in the world of cinema. Every single movie that has been based on a videogame has been a box office disaster. The Spirits Within could very well be the first videogame-to-movie to succeed because not only is it the most known game series ever, but Square always has a fabulous story to tell. Combine that with the most jaw-dropping animation you'll ever see and you've got enough to draw a huge crowd.

| Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within has an estimated release date of July 11, 2001 worldwide (as square said it.)
